Overlooking Afrtica’s Great Rift Valley
Situated on the edge of a ridge between two beautiful gorges on an 60-acre private estate, the view from L’Ol Dacha stretches across Africa’s Great Rift Valley. On a clear day you can see for hundreds of miles into Tanzania to the south and over to the distant Nguruman escarpment to the west, with massive Olorsgesaille nearly dwarfed by the expanse of the backdrop.
The buildings are constructed from stones and boulders dug from the surrounding land and are built into the hillside to blend in with the natural environment. There is a general purpose day room with split level dining room and kitchen attached. There are three self-contained double units with cold water washrooms, and a ‘log cabin’-cum-general-purpose evening room with a further double bedroom attached. There is an outdoor solar shower which offers very hot water, the shower has a sundeck for drying, and must boast one of the most scenic views in the world (as does the long drop), For cloudy days there’s a kuni booster.
Things to see and do
Simply relax and enjoy the distant vistas while sipping cool drinks by the pool, lounging in a hammock, or resting under the trees, binoculars always at hand to check out the birds and animals nearby. Colourful resident birds (woodpeckers, sunbirds, weaverbirds, starlings) feed just a few feet from the veranda. Game is shy, but most days one will see the resident Chandler’s reedbuck, and often, klipspringer, eland, baboon and the very occasional leopard, buffalo and aardvark. Why not arrange one day to include a bit of both?
